I have been skiing here for a while now and am a decent not excellent skier. Just like everywhere else on the east coast, when the layer of manmade snow gets pushed off by crappy skiers and the boarders, the ice patches are rough even if you are a decent skier, especially when the visibility stinks. Killington has some very steep and challenging runs and awesome glades which are fun to ski with adequate snow and really not fun when the ice is everywhere causing you to have to find the brushed off snow on each turn or risk falling if you are moving too fast and trying to carve your turns. The other thing is that for all of the talk about improvements, the resort is still well below anything nice out West. I question whether it will ever become the destination resort in the East that the new owners are touting. They would need to really revamp a lot, including adding considerable infrastructure (housing, restaurants, shops) and amenities and extend trails to reach more of the lower half of the mountain. The town is great if you are 25 but not so hot if you desire anything upscale. All said, on a weekday with nobody there and plenty of snow, it is pretty darn good and will test your abilities. Pico is also great when nobody is there and the snow is good.
