Steamboat Trail Map
Steamboat’s terrain spans six distinct peaks: Mount Werner, Sunshine Peak, Storm Peak, Thunderhead Peak, Christie Peak, and Pioneer Ridge. Each offers a unique skiing experience, from wide-open groomers to steep chutes and tree-lined descents. The resort’s 3741 acres of skiable terrain are thoughtfully distributed, with 184 trails and a vertical drop of 3666 ft. Snowmaking covers key areas, ensuring reliable conditions throughout the season.
Beginners will find comfort in the Sunshine Bowl and lower mountain zones, where gentle slopes and designated slow-skiing areas make learning enjoyable. Runs like Right-O Way and Giggle Gulch are ideal for first-timers, and the Wild Blue Gondola provides easy access to mellow terrain. Greenhorn Ranch serves as a dedicated learning centre with progressive features and supportive instruction.
Intermediate skiers can explore a wide variety of blue runs, including Buddy’s Run and High Noon, which offer long, flowing descents with stunning views. The Elkhead and Sunshine Express lifts provide quick access to these areas, allowing for efficient laps and minimal wait times. These zones are perfect for building confidence and enjoying the mountain’s natural beauty.
Advanced skiers will appreciate the challenge of Morningside Park and Pioneer Ridge, where tree skiing and moguls dominate. Runs like Closets and Shadows are known for their powder stashes and technical lines. The terrain here is dynamic, offering both speed and precision for those looking to push their limits.
Expert terrain is concentrated around Storm Peak and Fish Creek Canyon, where double-black chutes and cliff drops await. Routes like North St. Pats and Christmas Tree Bowl demand skill and nerve, while newer in-bounds areas such as Boulder Field and Endless Gully offer steep, sustained descents. These zones are best tackled on powder days when conditions are prime.
Freestyle riders will find three terrain parks catering to all levels. Lil’ Rodeo is ideal for beginners, while Rabbit Ears and Mavericks feature advanced features including jumps, rails, and the Mavericks Superpipe — one of the largest in North America. The parks are well maintained and offer a progressive layout that encourages skill development.
