Snow Reporter Comments: 2/26 2:30PM - Afternoon y’all! We have a gorgeous day on the books tomorrow with partly sunny skies and a high of 34 degrees at the base. So spend your Friday the best way possible by skiing and riding down 96 open trails spanning across 638 of skiable acres. The grooming team will smooth out 68 of those trails overnight. Alongside, 10 lifts will take you up the mountain starting at 9AM with no delays detected. This weekend is our last Ikon Stoke Event weekend of the season, so come hang out at Mid-Mountain and the Sun Bowl all weekend long for live music, Ikon swag and great company. Have a great night and i’ll catch up with you all bright and early!Gondola Update 2/26:We want to provide another gondola update ahead of the weekend. Delivery of the gondola component from France to Vermont has been slightly delayed due to the past storm in the northeast. Tracking shows that delivery to our local machine shop in Vermont is now expected on Friday. The shop has quoted us a 2-day turnaround, then we will need an additional day for installation and inspection. With this proposed timeline, we will not be operating the gondola this weekend and expect it to reopen early next week. While we are disappointed, we are thankful for our diligent lift mechanic team and their efforts to prioritize safety and resolve this issue.Gondola Update 2/22:With help from Alterra and Leitner Poma, we have procured the necessary component, which is being overnighted from a supplier in France. This component is on its way to our local machine shop in Vermont. Once the part arrives in Vermont, the first step is to machine it down to its final specifications. These components have very tight tolerances. Installation in the top gondola terminal will begin immediately afterward and is a fairly straightforward process. Finally, upon the Vermont Tramway Inspector's sign-off, the gondola will reopen to the public. We will continue to provide information as we work diligently throughout this upcoming week and look to be spinning the gondola soon. We plan on providing another update midweek.Gondola Update 2/20:As we noted in yesterday's Mountain Report, our Lift Maintenance team discovered an issue during routine maintenance checks and made the decision to remedy it before running the lift. The part at issue is in the top terminal and key to allowing the cabins to circulate around the terminal and return to the line to go back downhill. If it were to fully fail, the cabins would not be able to cycle through the top and we would be required to perform a rope evacuation. While we keep many parts on hand for maintenance and wear and tear, there's no ski area that is able to keep all of the extra parts on hand for every lift part, for every scenario. That is not practical, and unfortunately, this is one of those parts. We have a very tenured team of experts who perform regular and preventative maintenance on all our lifts throughout the year including the winter. As with a lot of machinery, the indications of an issue present themselves when they present themselves and that's what happened this week after showing no indication all season long.We immediately began working with the manufacturer to procure the part and as of our latest conversations this morning we do not have an estimated arrival date. The good news is that the fix should only take a day once it arrives. We want to be transparent with everyone regarding the gondola operations beyond today as it's clear that the gondola will not operate this weekend and likely into early next week. We plan to have all of our other lifts running this weekend with 100% of our terrain open which helps spread everyone out throughout the mountain. We will update the timeline as soon as we have more information.Safety Tip: Observe and obey all signs and warnings! The Ikon Stoke Event is back this weekend from Friday, February 27 through Sunday, March 1!
