Where To Ski Near Vancouver
Whistler Blackcomb
Whistler Blackcomb is North America’s largest ski resort and one of the most renowned ski areas in the world. Located just 90 minutes north of Vancouver, this world-renowned ski resort offers the rare combination of convenience and expansive ski terrain, home to 8,171 acres of skiing and riding across two mountains. Across the two mountains are more than 200 marked trails, 16 alpine bowls, and three glaciers. Once the lifts stop spinning, the action turns to Whistler’s sprawling pedestrian village, which is filled with shops, restaurants, bars, luxury hotels, and more. There are few ski resorts that have the expansiveness, modern lifts, and world-class amenities as Whistler Blackcomb.
No car? No problem. Several companies offer shuttle service between Vancouver International Airport, downtown Vancouver, and Whistler.

Cypress Mountain
Cypress Mountain, located just 30 minutes from downtown Vancouver, is a convenient and popular ski destination for locals and visitors alike. Offering stunning views of the city and surrounding landscapes, Cypress provides a variety of runs suited for skiers and snowboarders of all skill levels. Don’t overlook Cypress just because it’s close to the city. The resort is home to 61 runs across two mountains, six chairlifts, and 2,010 feet of vertical drop. With its proximity to the city, Cypress Mountain is perfect for a quick escape into the mountains, offering both daytime and night skiing, along with fun après-ski options.

Grouse Mountain
Known as the “Peak of Vancouver,” Grouse Mountain is another one of the city’s most accessible ski resorts, located less than 30 minutes from downtown Vancouver. Grouse Mountain is ideal for a quick winter getaway and taste of skiing in British Columbia, offering just over 30 runs and six lifts. Like Cypress, Grouse is also open for night skiing. This is a great family destination, too, since there are snowshoeing trails, sledding, ice skating, and even a mountaintop movie theater. The Skyride Tram operates year-round, featuring incredible views of the Vancouver skyline, Pacific Ocean, and more. If you just have a day or half-day to ski, then Grouse is one of the best options, since it’s the closest ski area to Vancouver.

Mt. Seymour
Mt. Seymour, a 30-minute drive from downtown Vancouver, rounds out the trio of ski areas that are around a half-hour from the city. The mountain features 41 ski runs and four terrain parks on its 200 skiable acres. Like Vancouver’s other resorts, Mt. Seymour also has night skiing. Skiers and riders of all abilities will find a lot to love, but especially those who live in the park. Mt. Seymour has one of the most recognized terrain parks in the area, featuring 30 park features, while it’s also lit for night riding. A limited amount of daily lift tickets for Mt. Seymour include free shuttle bus access from East Vancouver or the Parkgate Community Centre in North Vancouver.

Sasquatch Mountain Resort
Tucked away in the Fraser Valley, two hours east of Vancouver, Sasquatch Mountain is a small, fun ski area with 36 runs suitable for all skill levels. The mountain has 1,300 feet of vertical and 300 acres of skiable terrain accessible by four lifts. While smaller than many other British Columbia ski resorts, Sasquatch Mountain offers great snow conditions and terrain, especially for skiers and snowboarders looking for a more intimate, uncrowded atmosphere. The ski area has a variety of terrain, including smooth groomers, glades, and a terrain park. Sasquatch is also known for its family-friendly vibe, making it a perfect spot for beginners and those looking for a more low-key mountain experience. While Sasquatch appeals to a variety of different skiers and riders, it’s particularly a great choice for Indy Pass holders as one of the only ski areas near Vancouver on the Indy Pass.

Manning Park
Manning Park, located two and a half hours east of Vancouver, is another unassuming British Columbia ski area, home to 346 acres of terrain, 1,417 feet of vertical, and 34 marked runs. It’s a welcome alternative to some of the Vancouver area’s more popular ski areas, and especially on a powder day. Manning Park receives a generous 300 inches of snowfall on average every year. It’s perfect for those seeking a more laid-back and family-friendly atmosphere. In addition to downhill skiing, the ski area offers cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and a tubing hill. Like Sasquatch, Manning Park is also on the Indy Pass.

While not the most convenient option near Vancouver, Mt. Washington Alpine Resort is one of the most unique ski resorts in the region. It’s located on Vancouver Island, which means that you’ll either have to fly or take a ferry. From Nanaimo, it’s just an hour and a half drive to the resort.
Many of British Columbia’s other resorts, such as Sun Peaks, Apex Mountain, SilverStar, and Big White, are farther from Vancouver, with many of them being at least a four- to five-hour drive. These resorts are well worth the drive for a long weekend or week-long ski trip and feature some spectacular terrain. However, they are a bit of a stretch for a day trip.
