Treble Cone Ski Area is the largest ski field on New Zealand’s South Island and is home to the longest vertical rise in Queenstown’s Southern Lakes District. Treble Cone is renowned for its dry snow, long runs, great off-piste terrain, and spectacular views. Treble Cone Ski Area is located only 35 minutes from the beautiful lakeside town of Wanaka and 90 minutes from Queenstown.
Treble Cone is located atop a 7km unpaved access road that is suitable for cars, coaches and motor homes. Be sure to check the weather report and carry chains in adverse conditions.
Treble Cone is home to the most intermediate and advanced terrain on the South Island. The ski field encompasses over 550 hectares and has a vertical rise of 700m. The Home Basin and Saddle Basin chairlifts are great for those looking to access a wide variety of trails from wide-open groomers to steep powder bowls.
Intermediate skiers or riders looking for long un-interrupted trails should head over to High Street, a run that is over 4km long. For the expert; the Motatapu Chutes is an off-piste playground full of steeps, cliff drops, and bowls.
Treble Cone is also a great access point for backcountry skiing and snowboarding. Check out Treble Cone’s backcountry ski lift pass that offers limited access to the chairlifts but grants access to some of the best backcountry skiing on the South Island. Make sure to bring your avalanche gear and some friends before venturing outside of the resort’s boundaries.
Treble Cone has multiple updated facilities. The ski area provides ski and snowboard hire, equipment maintenance, clothing hire, gear storage, childcare, cafe, bar, retail shop, chain hire, guided tours, medical center.
Treble Cone also offers access to free beginner lifts located alongside the base area.
