Overview

Ohau Snow Fields is a small family run ski field located on New Zealand’s South Island. Tucked away in the Mackenzie High Country, Ohau Snow Fields offers visitors spectacular views of Lake Ohau from the Ohau Range on the Main Divide.

The Ohau Snow field has great terrain for all skill levels from beginners to intermediate skiers and snowboarders. Beginners will find wide open runs while the more advanced rider can hike to more challenging terrain for un-touched powder runs and amazing views.

A 20 minute drive from Lake Ohau Lodge to the snowfields. Most visitors drive their own vehicles but occasionally chains might be needed. There is also a bus that leaves the lodge in the morning and returns in the evening.

The Lake Ohau Lodge is 15 minutes from the ski field, has 75 rooms and offers four styles of accommodation from backpacker facilities to luxury double rooms.

Terrain

Ohau Snow Field is contained within a steep valley and has lots of terrain features to explore. Most of the advanced terrain is an easy traverse along the valley walls. Take the high traverse and take Tom’s Drop or Escalator for some excellent off-piste steep terrain.

Beginners can access wide open terrain on “The Boulevard" or alternatively find the beginners area with its own dedicated lift. Ohau is also known to be a great family resort with a warm inviting atmosphere and affordable ski packages.

Inside Scoop

Ohau Snow Fields provides ski patrol, cafe, ski hire, and lessons. Shuttle bus from the lodge to the ski area is also available.  Check out the Lake Ohau Day Lodge after your day on the slopes for après and a hot spa to relax at.
