Canaan Valley Resort’s terrain spans 95 acres with a vertical drop of 850 feet, offering a compact but varied mountain experience. The base sits at 3,430 feet and the summit reaches 4,280 feet, providing a reliable snowpack supported by snowmaking across most trails. With 47 runs and 6 lifts, the resort caters to a wide range of abilities, from beginners to advanced skiers.

Beginners will find gentle terrain near the base, especially on runs like Bunny Buster and Sissy Schuss. These areas are served by surface lifts and are ideal for first-timers and young skiers. The ski school operates nearby, making it easy to coordinate lessons and rentals in one zone.

Intermediate skiers can explore longer groomers such as Timber Trail and Weiss Way, which offer consistent pitch and scenic views of the valley. These runs are accessible via the main quad and triple chairs, allowing for smooth laps and varied routes across the front side of the mountain.

Advanced terrain is concentrated on the upper mountain, where runs like Gravity and Chute deliver steeper descents and natural features. These trails are groomed regularly but retain enough character to challenge confident skiers. The tree-lined sections also provide shelter and visual interest.

Expert skiers have limited but rewarding options, including Dark Side of the Moon—a narrow, ungroomed run with variable conditions and a steep drop. It’s best tackled in fresh snow and good visibility. While only 2% of the terrain is rated expert, it offers a technical challenge for those seeking it.

Freestyle riders can head to the resort’s terrain park, located near the base and serviced by a surface lift. The park includes three rails and a rotating setup of small-to-medium features, ideal for progression. It’s a popular spot for younger skiers and snowboarders looking to build skills.

The longest run, Timber Trail, stretches 1.3 miles from summit to base, offering a scenic descent through open slopes and wooded sections. With 10.6 miles of skiable terrain, Canaan Valley Resort provides a well-balanced mountain experience that suits families, casual skiers, and those looking to refine their technique.
