Montanta's Big Sky Resort takes home the most coveted spot in the 2013 OnTheSnow Visitors' Choice Awards: Best Overall Resort in North America. Its extensive, varied terrain and walkable, lively village serve up a winning combo that appeals to all.

Big Sky has three mountains to delight skiers and snowboarders, together offering 3,812 acres and 4,350 vertical feet of terrain. Off the slopes, the friendly village is home to more than 800 slopeside rooms plus 30 restaurants and watering holes. Big Sky Resort is located midway between Bozeman and West Yellowstone, in southwestern Montana on US Highway 191. More than 25 flights a day arrive into nearby Bozeman, Montana (BZN).

APRÉS SPOTS: You'll find everything from nachos and microbrews to five-star Italian cuisine. Sing along to a regional band at Whiskey Jack's; relax at the Carabiner listening to the tales of a Montana singer-songwriter; groove to the tunes of a mix master DJ in the ice bar; or catch the latest ski flick in the Roosevelt Ampitheater. Alternatively, unwind in the Solace Spa with a massage, facial, algae wrap, mineral bath and steam.

WHERE TO SKI: Of Big Sky's three mountains, Lone Mountain is the resort's signature peak, rising to 11,166 feet with plenty of European-style expert terrain below. Andesite Mountain has some of the resort's most notable intermediate cruising runs, some comfortable south-facing beginner trails, several expert tree runs, a superpipe and a giant terrain park. Flat Iron Mountain is on the eastern shoulder of Andesite and offers even more variety. In the draw between Andesite and Lone Mountains, you'll find Big Sky's designated inbounds snowshoe trail: Moose Tracks. The Big Sky Resort-Moonlight Basin interconnect makes it "the Biggest Skiing in America," as the Lone Peak Ticket provides skiers and riders seamless access to 5,512 skiable acres.
