Management and only One Lift Running

Full review

Staying in Winter Park with my family, we thought it would be fun to drive 20 minutes away to Granby Ranch ski mountain, where we saw the prices were reasonable and they also had night skiing, thinking it would be a fun experience. Which it would've been, had the management been more cordial. My family of four got there at about 2:30, paid for our 1/2 day lift tickets (at $56 each) and our rentals (another $34 per person), then got on the slopes by 3:00. Unfortunately only 1 lift was operating, but since prices were reasonable, I didn't think too much about that. We were able to take two runs, and the lift stopped running at 4:00. We were informed that if we wanted to do night skiing, we needed to pay an additional $17 per person for lift tickets. When questioning why the management and/or employees didn't at least inform us that we should probably just wait until after 4:00 to pay for just the night skiing, they told us that technically they didn't need to let us know that fact. Apparently, everyone is just supposed to know this. Side note, we are not locals, we drove from Iowa for a nice family trip, and didn't know that night skiing is a completely different cost than the half day price. Our understanding was that if we paid for half day lift tickets, we were also able to use those for the night skiing. After arguing with management, we came to the conclusion that we just had to accept the fact that we had just paid $224 for going down the slopes twice, and now had to drop another $68 for night skiing. Had management been more cordial or even a little bit apologetic, rather than telling us it was our fault for not asking, I could have probably accepted that. In the end, we made the best of it, but due to the way we were treated, will not be going back. Unfortunate, as it could have been a great place to stay and ski for our next trip to Colorado.
