Fernie must be amazing when the snow is good - so much fantastic terrain. Overall a good non-pretentious atmosphere and a great town nearby with good activities (not just restricted to the Apres scene, lots of art, a museum and library and a fantastic local pool) and a welcoming feel. Suggestions for improvement would be: 1) update the printed trail map with named runs rather than the current numbered runs that you then have find on the key at the bottom that is (no joke) 6 point font and grouped by bowls (there is no excuse for not doing this when much larger resorts can manage it), 2) have signage for named runs on the mountain (currently lacking in some areas i.e. Cedar Bowl) , 3) provide useful descriptions of snow conditions, i.e. when we were there the upper mtn snow was described as 'variable' when only the blue groomed runs were skiable, most of the mountain was shut and some of the blue groomers were icy to the point of being harder to ski than double black runs at other Canadian resorts. Most lift operators were great but some were looking at their phones rather than the lifts and a few didn't acknowledge skiers or were busy horsing around with odd gestures etc. Snow conditions are out of everyone's control but some easy improvements would really lift the experience for visitors.
