Shred for Red and Ski With Olympians

Newsroom Travel Shred for Red and Ski With Olympians

Sponsored by The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

Just about anyone who skis has dreamt of the opportunity to meet or ski with an Olympian. This December you have the chance to do just that at one of America’s most iconic ski resorts, Deer Valley, in Park City, Utah. What’s more, you’ll be skiing for a good cause as part of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s annual Shred for Red event.

What Is Shred For Red?

There’s no better way to kick off the ski season than by giving back while shredding alongside winter Olympian and Paralympian skiers at Deer Valley. The annual event is put on by The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), the world’s largest blood cancer nonprofit with a 360-degree approach to helping patients and families. Shred for Red brings together athletes, skiers, and the blood cancer community to raise money to help create a world without blood cancers.

Every trail and lift you take pushes LLS closer to its goal and helps fund programs like the Dare To Dream Project, a five-year, $175M initiative to transform care for kids with blood cancer, and Myeloma Link, a specialized resource for Black Americans, who face higher incidences of myeloma.

Each year Shred for Red has an Honored Hero. This year’s hero is Owen, who was diagnosed with lymphoma in 2023 after experiencing immense pain all over his body. Throughout the intense treatment, which included a chest port, chemotherapy, and immunotherapy, Owen stayed upbeat and cheerful. Owen rang the bell signaling his remission in May of 2024.

Meet The Olympians

A number of Olympians hit the slopes at Deer Valley each year during Shred for Red. Participants will have a chance to meet and ski alongside Bryan Fletcher, a two-time Nordic Combined Olympian, who competed in the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics and Sochi 2014 Olympics. For Bryan, a committee member of the Shred for Red Team, this is personal, since he’s a blood cancer survivor.

Other Olympians who’ve participated in the past have included Shannon Bahrke Happe, a freestyle skier who was a silver medalist in Moguls at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, and three-time Olympian Kris “Fuzz” Feddersen. Meet more of Shred for Red’s Olympians on the LLS website.
