Newsroom Flight Guide To Mountain Destinations Non-Stop Flights to Telluride

A remote, picturesque mountain town renowned for its breathtaking scenery, Telluride is full of exciting ski terrain, rich history, and world-class skiing. OnTheSnow’s users, for the 2022-23 ski season, rated it no. 1 as the Best All-Mountain Terrain Resort. Surrounded by the rugged San Juan Mountains, Telluride treats skiers and snowboarders to panoramic views of jagged snow-capped peaks as they navigate 2,000 acres of skiable terrain.

Note, however, that Telluride is much more remote than most of Colorado’s ski resorts. Denver is more than six hours away. So this is one ski destination you’ll want to fly into. Let our Telluride flight guide help as you plan your Telluride ski trip.

>About Telluride

Stunning beauty and incredible history collide in Telluride, designated a National Historic Landmark District. Telluride’s charming Victorian architecture and well-preserved streets take visitors back to the late 19th century, capturing the essence of its mining heritage. The town itself is entirely walkable, while access to the Gondola helps bridge the gap between the resort and local culture. Mountain Village is a modern resort community featuring upscale hotels, shops, and restaurants, providing a luxurious complement to the historic charm of Telluride.

Telluride Ski Resort is recognized internationally for its terrain. It on average receives more than 300 inches of snow per season, and boasts 300 days of sunshine. While there’s so much standout terrain, Revelation Bowl, which opened in 2008, is considered some of its most legendary terrain. Telluride Ski Resort’s combination of views and terrain is truly unparalleled.

Montrose, on the other hand, is a scenic 65-mile drive away. Given the legendary landscape of the area, the views make the extra drive worth it, especially if you’re unable to fly into Telluride Regional Airport. From December to March/April, you’ve got direct flights to Montrose (MTJ) from major hubs like Atlanta (ATL), Chicago (ORD), Denver (DEN), Dallas (DFW and DAL), Houston (IAH), and New York.

Several transportation companies provide service from Telluride to Montrose. Although rental cars are available at both airports, it’s not necessary considering the walkability of Telluride and its unique and free public transportation system—the Telluride/Mountain Village Gondola. This system connects the town of Telluride with the Mountain Village and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains.

Need to Know Information

It’s no secret that a ski trip can often take a little bit more planning and preparation. And that’s particularly the case when flying into a destination like Telluride that has a smaller airport and is prone to winter weather. We recommend booking your flights as far in advance as possible. Those weekend flights in and out of Telluride fill up quickly, and especially on holiday weekends.

Finally, no matter where you’re flying in and out of, we recommend giving yourself some extra time. Winter weather, traffic, and the time to check ski gear and get through security can all be unpredictable. For one less thing to think about, consider shipping your skis or snowboard.
