Meteorologist Chris Tomer gives us the run down on where will be the snowiest this weekend. The hot spot this week and weekend is the West.  The Atmospheric River pattern is driving the overall forecast.

California

The Atmospheric River continues on Thursday and tapers-off on Friday.  Blizzard Warnings remain in effect for the High Sierra from Tahoe to Mammoth.  50-100 inch grand totals.  This includes Squaw Valley, Kirkwood, Heavenly, and Mammoth.  Another storm system arrives late in the weekend or early next week.

Idaho, Wyoming, Montana

Pieces of the Atmospheric River will break loose and hit the ski areas through Saturday.  I'm forecasting 1-3 feet of total accumulation at Sun Valley, Grand Targhee, and Jackson Hole.  Less accumulation at Schweitzer, Big Sky, and Discovery.  Powder skiing looks excellent both Saturday and Sunday.

Utah, Colorado

Pieces of the Atmospheric River will break loose and hit the ski areas through Saturday.  I'm forecasting moderate to heavy snow accumulation in the Wasatch, and moderate snow accumulation at Colorado's ski areas.  The prime powder days are Saturday and Sunday.  Look to Alta, Snowbird, Snowbasin, Wolf Creek, Aspen/Snowmass, Silverton Mountain, and Steamboat the biggest totals.

Pacific Northwest

There are two different storm systems lined-up through Sunday.  I'm forecasting moderate to in some cases heavy snow accumulation through Sunday on the high volcanoes and high Cascades.  Baker and Whistler/Blackcomb could see 1-2 feet with less to the south.  The best powder day is Sunday.

Banff Area

The storm track is a little too far to the south for big snow.  I'm forecasting light snow accumulation through Sunday.  A large storm is possible early next week.

Northeast

No big snow through Saturday.  Lingering light snow between Wednesday and Thursday.  A Clipper slides through on Friday with light snow.  Watching for a storm system between Sunday-Tuesday but it might go too far south.

Tomer's Take

On Friday ski Tahoe or Mammoth, on Saturday ski Sun Valley or Jackson Hole, and on Sunday ski Alta, Snowbird, Jackson Hole, or Wolf Creek.
