Meteorologist Chris Tomer gives us the run down on where will be the snowiest this weekend, 12/17-12/20/2020. The hot spot over the next five days is the West. Out East, the Nor`Easter will largely miss the big ski areas.
Utah, Colorado
Best snow slides through Thursday-Friday. Light to moderate accumulation in Colorado. Moderate to heavy accumulation in Utah's Wasatch Front. Look to Alta, Snowbird for 1-2 feet of accumulation. 4-10" at Park City. In Colorado, most resorts get 3-6".
A small secondary clipper blows through on Saturday with another dusting.
Wyoming, Montana, Idaho
Best snow slides through Thursday-Friday. Moderate to heavy accumulation at Jackson Hole, Grand Targhee, and Sun Valley. Moderate accumulation at Big Sky, Bridger Bowl, and Schweitzer. A second storm system blows through late Friday through Saturday with light additional accumulation. A third storm storm system is possible on Sunday-Monday. Accumulations appear moderate.
Pacific Northwest
Three different storm systems are lined-up with heavy accumulation. 1-3 feet appears likely at the ski areas, high volcanoes, and high Cascades. This includes Whistler/Blackcomb, Mount Rainier, Stevens Pass, Mount Baker, and Mount Bachelor.
Full Video forecast:
Banff
Three different storm systems are lined-up with moderate accumulation. This includes Sunshine, Revelstoke, Kicking Horse, and Fernie.
California
The best snow slides through on Thursday. Moderate snow accumulation from Mammoth to Tahoe to Shasta. The other two storm systems hitting the Pacific Northwest appear to just miss California to the north.
Northeast
The big story is the Nor`Easter on Thursday followed by colder air on Friday. Most of the heavy snow misses the big ski areas in NH, VT and ME. Southern NH, VT, and ME stand the best chance at getting brushes by moderate snow accumulation. Mount Snow, Catamount, Jiminy Peak, and Wachusett are in the best position for moderate to heavy snow accumulation.
Tomer's Take
On Friday ski Alta, Snowbird, or Jackson Hole, on Saturday ski Whistler/Blackcomb, Aspen/Snowmass, Alta, Snowbird, Brighton, or Jackson Hole, and Sunday ski Whistler/Blackcomb, the Banff area, or Schweitzer.
