Those of us lucky enough to be skiers and snowboarders living in the Boston metropolitan area have a virtual nor’easter of choices for where we want to indulge our sports. We can simply jump in the car and be at any one of dozens of high-quality ski areas within a few hours. Or, we can head to Logan and zoom off to a wide choice of world class Western destinations.

Still, this season is different. Very different. But we’re still going to ski and ride and we’ll do it safely. We have compiled the latest COVID-19 information for driving and flying so you can decide the safest and most convenient ways to enjoy this ski season. When and where do I need to wear a face covering?

Face coverings are required virtually everywhere at the resort except when eating or drinking and whenever social distancing is not possible.

Where can I find the most up-to-date information or COVID guidelines?

Massachusetts:  Visitors must quarantine for 10 days upon entering stater unless fully vaccinated. Statewide face covering mandate in all public indoor and outdoor spaces for those 5+. Bars and nightclubs closed.
County: Worcester (city website)

Maine is requiring a 10-day self-quarantine or show a negative COVID-19 test result for those arriving from out-of-state except from N.H,.CT, RI, MA, or Vermont. As of May 1, all states will be exempt. Statewide face covering mandate in public spaces for those 5+. Penalties for non-compliance. 
County: Franklin County (Sugarloaf)
Oxford County (Sunday River)

New Hampshire:
No domestic travel restrictions.  International travelers must follow quarantine and testing protocols.Statewide mandatory mask order for those 5+ through April 16.

Travel restrictions: There is a mandatory 14-day self quarantine upon arrival, or quarantine for 7 days followed by a negative COVID test on day 7. If vaccinated within 14 days of arrival, exempt from quarantine. Statewide mask mandatory for those 2+ if social distancing is not possible. Restaurants must close at 10 p.m.; bars closed.

Travel restrictions between Boston and California:  Out of state travelers to California advised to self quarantine for 10 days. Los Angeles County travelers 16+ must sign an online travel form including those arriving at airport or Union Station. There is a mandatory mask order for those over 2 (some exceptions apply).

Colorado COVID threat level: Mask mandate for those 11+.

Travel restrictions between Boston and Colorado:

Masks mandatory in state for those 11+. Pitkin County visitors (home to Aspen and other ski resorts) returning to or staying more than 10 days must complete the county's Traveler Responsibility Code (through April 30). The Code specifies completion and acknowledgement of CDC guidelines and Public Health Orders. Bars closed statewide.

New Mexico

New Mexico COVID threat level:

Travel restrictions between Boston and New Mexico:  County restrictions depend on virus risk. All visitors from high risk states advised to self quarantine for 14 days or for duration of stay, whichever is shorter, and take COVID-19 test. Mask mandate when in public spaces. Some bars, casinos have reopened.

Travel restrictions between Boston and British Columbia: 

Non-essential travel banned. All travelers (unless exempt) must present a negative COVID test and self quarantine for 14 days. Air travelers must submit negative test within 72 hours of travel and then quarantine for 3 days at hotel at own expense until test results known. Hotel reservation lines entail lengthy waits,if available at all. Flights can land only at Vancouver, Calgary, Montreal and Toronto Airports. All travelers required to submit travel and contact information electronically via ArriveCan.
