Those of us lucky enough to be skiers and snowboarders living in the Boston metropolitan area have a virtual nor’easter of choices for where we want to indulge our sports. We can simply jump in the car and be at any one of dozens of high-quality ski areas within a few hours. Or, we can head to Logan and zoom off to a wide choice of world class Western destinations.

Still, this season is different. Very different. But we’re still going to ski and ride and we’ll do it safely. We have compiled the latest COVID-19 information for driving and flying so you can decide the safest and most convenient ways to enjoy this ski season. When and where do I need to wear a face covering?

Face coverings are required virtually everywhere at the resort except when eating or drinking and whenever social distancing is not possible.

Where can I find the most up-to-date information or COVID guidelines?

Massachusetts:  Travelers from high risk states (excxept for Hawaii) entering the state must complete a travel form and a 14-day self-quarantine or have a COVID negative test result until Jan. 24. Statewide face covering mandate in all public spaces for those 5+.

Note: Maine is requiring a 10-day self-quarantine or show a negative COVID-19 test result for those arriving from out-of-state except from N.H. or Vermont. Statewide face covering mandate in public spaces for those 5+. Bars/restaurants to close by 9 p.m.

New Hampshire:

Travel restrictions between Boston and California:  Most of California is under a stay-at-home order. Regional stay-at--home orders go into effect for 3 weeks if region's ICU availability falls below 15%. Some areas (San Francisco and LA County) under 10-day quarantine. Order prohibits staying overnight at ski areas.

Colorado COVID threat level: Mask mandate for those 11+.

Travel restrictions between Boston and Colorado:

None. The move to COVID-19 red level in many Colorado counties does not affect ski resort on-mountain operations. Pitkin County (home to Aspen and other ski resorts) requires visitors to complete a health affidavit and provide a negative Covid-19 test taken within 72 hours of arrival or face a mandatory 10-day quarantine. Counties are under color-coded risk levels through Feb. 6. Mask mandate for those 11+.

Travel restrictions between Boston and New Mexico:  County restrictions depend on virus risk. All visitors from high risk states must quarantine for 14-days or for duration of stay, whichever is shorter. Mask mandate when in public spaces.
