Mammoth is one of the BEST mountains to ski for all skill levels. For the expert skier, there are tons of runs that will challenge the best of skiers. The Mammoth Mountain staff does a good job of grooming the slopes while trying to leave some of the expert runs untouched for those who want. Mammoth tends to get great snow coverage with good winter and spring skiing (sometimes closing as late as 4th of July !). This mountain is AWESOME, period ! Cons: This mountain has become very expensive to ski, especially for families who do just an annual trip or two. Stay away from the mountain on weekends and Holidays, as the lift lines as unbearably long (especially around the lodges at the bottom of the mountain). While the mountain has done a very good job with it's branding and incorporating the town and the mountain under the same umbrella, but it has also raised the ante for visiting Mammoth and costly. If you like a big mountain and great skiing, Mammoth Mountain is your place ! Make sure that you visit during the week and stay away during weekends and holidays, and you will have a great skiing experience that will be limited only by how long your legs can hold up Suggested: If you plan on skiing for a week or longer at Mammoth, the annual ski pass is the way to go (... you "break even" at about 6-7 days of skiiing... ) and the added benefits are worth it. Don't forget the Summer and Fall seasons, where Mammoth turns into a great hiking and mountain biking destination - one of our favorite times to visit is late summer before school starts with great weather and low crowds.
