BEWARE! Our room was full of live bees! I was stung by a bee in our room, my ankle was swelled up so putting snowboard boots on was a huge pain which ended in me not snowboarding. We spent 7 hours driving because of the bad weather for me to not even snowboard because I was stung by bees they failed to get rid of, the window looked like it hadn’t been vacuumed out of bees and lady bugs in over a year or two! We made 5 trips from the car to the room to unpack and when I had taken my shoes off to get changed I didn’t realize the entire floor and beds were covered in live bees which I am allergic to. After arguing for a new room and to speak with a manager they finally moved us like it was an inconvenience to them, instead of refunding is anything they acted like it was our problem and should have expected such issues. The new room had a broken shower and the handle was laying in the tub only way to turn the shower on was with pliers which I always bring with me luckily. This place should be shut down and re opened by a new owner, they are beyond pathetic and terrible at customer service. Drive to chestnut or go further for a nicer resort or if anything. This place will rip you off in one way or another. I have pictures I’ve posted on other sites of all the bees and broken shower. We had three more trips planned for this year to go here with big groups of people but we have canceled our trip we had booked for two weeks out and are going to chestnut instead.

Arrived at the Devils Head ski resort on 12/28/20. My kids had ski class scheduled online. It took us a few minutes to figure out where to start. Ski rental was slightly stressful, needed to ask a lot of questions to get the rental gear right for inexperienced skiers. Ski school instructors were very friendly however the check in process for group classes was quite chaotic. Slopes are well groomed. Lift operators are helpful and patient with young skiers. Overall, a good first impression.
Well maintained slopes, easy and relaxed skiing
Ski school is slightly disorganized

AVOID AT ALL COST. WE ENDED UP SPENDING A $694 AND NOT BEING ABLE TO SKI! We arrived at Devils Head resort on December 23rd at 10am, for my sons 7th birthday. We reserved 4 group lessons, at a price of $35 each for 12 pm. We were planning to start skiing as soon as we get the equipment. Just like we do every year, we came to the ticket office to purchase tickets and were told to sign the wavers inside first. The equipment crew told us to go to office where we reserved the lessons, which were supposed to "come back in 5 min". They sent us back to the ticket office and this was going on in a circle. Hour and a half later, we were able to get our equipment and finally got together with the instructors. Shortly, the instructors realized that one of the kids did not have the right skies. We went to replace them. A Few minutes later, the instructors realized that one of the kids has two different size boots. We replaced them. Shortly, they realized that my son had two different skies. Finally, we were able walk to the hill about half an hour into the lesson. Shortly an instructor realized that my sons bindings were loose and they had to be tightened. I ran back and requested to talk to the manager ( Cooper ). Cooper apologized and walked with me to fix the bindings. He said that he will notify the GM Joseph Vittengl about the situation ( which he never did according to Joseph). After I resolved my sons' situation, my friends daughters' bindings were loose as well. We contacted Cooper, which sent us a guy with the new skies. Kids finally started with the lesson around 12:50. During the lesson, two of us stayed with the kids that were taking a lesson, since the instructors were not able to handle the group of 6 kids. Kids were laying on the snow for long periods of time, waiting for the instructors to help them. We were not able to get on the lift until 1:00 and ended up going only twice down the slopes. At 3 pm they had to close the slopes for a "short break". I went to the front desk around 5pm. and requested to talk to the GM. They said that he left early and that he will call me tomorrow. Joseph did not contact me so I decided to give him a call around 11 am. After a short conversation, he said that he will look into an issue and call me back. A few hours later, I decided to give him a call. During that conversation Joseph managed to call me a liar, stating that this never happened. He even stated that Cooper did not work that day! ( How would I know who Cooper was otherwise! ). I requested a full refund from Joseph, which he refused to do, and decided to hung up a phone on me! WE ENDED UP SPENDING A $694 AND NOT BEING ABLE TO SKI! 3 adult passes/rentals at $90 = $270 4 kids lessons at $35= $140 4 kids passes/rentals at $71=$284
TERRIBLE SERVICE

One of my favorite ski hills. 500 ft vertical, so more height and longer runs than most midwest ski hills. The ski area is very scenic with rock outcroppings and wooded runs. Great views of the Wisconsin river and countryside from the top. Staff is very friendly. For me, this is a no-brainer -- terrific skiing at a reasonable price. One last recommendation: try the pizza in the Devil's Den -- very good!
Long Runs, scenic, reasonable

Charged full price even though a quarter of the runs weren't even open. Been going there for over 30 years. More then likely never going back. Chestnut is closer.
Close enough to home

I hadn't been here in a couple of years and was pleased with what I found. After weeks of variable weather and little snow, I expected icy runs, but the grooming was excellent and I encountered almost no ice. It was a weekend but the black runs were very uncrowded. I plan to come back this season.
grooming, scenie runs, uncrowded
no high-soeed lifts

Two days of skiing/boarding. We prefer to ski/board at Devil's Head vs. Granite Peak. Lodging is the main difference. Granite Peak does not have a lodge but there are plenty of nearby hotels in Wausau. Devil's Head does have a lodge but not nearby hotels. Closest hotels are off I90 Exit 108 or in Baraboo. We stay at the Devil's Head Lodge - 2-levels with 3-wings (A, B & C) - 70s hotel which has not had much updating (no Wi-Fi in rooms). We have not stayed in the 6-story Inn or the Condos. We always try to see a movie at the Portage Theater.
Great skiing!
