Full review
It really pains me to write this review, I've been a regular at Alpine Valley for over ten years, it's my home mountain. This year, I felt like they didn't really care about season pass holders, at all. Most of the winter was spent waiting in line for 5 or 10 minutes for a 1 minute run on a weekday morning while the other high speed quad was shut down. Usually this time of year I really feel like they're taking care of us, keeping things going for the pass holders. But it was absolutely slammed on a Friday morning, rental and ticket line wrapping around the building. They finally started running the other high speed quad that services the main three diamond runs at the end of February, and it was running today, but why did it take them all winter to get Super Glide running when season pass holders were waiting in lines for a bunch of non-regulars? Usually I snowboard a lot, but I found myself going home early this year, A LOT, because the lines just weren't worth it. I only did 10 runs today and just gave up, it's not fun when you spend your time in lines and your ride down the hill is spent dodging noobs who feel like they should be plowing the little snow on top of the ice off the black diamond runs or the ones who can barely make it down the hill in the terrain park. I barely did any free ride this year and just spent my runs on where ever the line was slowest.
The extra salt in the wound is how the rumor on the lifts is that they're going to use this super busy year and huge profits to fix up the hotel. No rumors of new runs or updating lifts.
It's not easy to write this review, I learned how to snowboard here and have been a regular for over 10 years. I really do love AV for a midwest ski hill, but this was easily the worst year I've ever had there. No doubt they're raise prices on season passes next year too.
Kudos to Alpine Pat for taking the time to try and keep the lines moving at least. No doubt he's had a stressful year and he doesn't need to be out there directing traffic, so it's highly appreciated. The snow team did a great job maintaining the snow, making snow, and keeping everything in great shape. Cheyenne in the pro shop is awesome and she's great to talk to. Whoever is the penny pincher in management who decided it was fine to make all the regulars wait all winter long in a line staring at a perfectly good high speed quad deserves to be fired. Way to stab your long time members in the back for a bunch of quick flatlander cash.
