I skied both Stowe and Sugarbush the same MLK weekend and Sugarbush had much less of crowd especially on Mt. Ellen. Views were fantastic at the summits. Conditions were much better than Stowe due to the lack of crowds. There weren't many icy slopes unless the trail hasnt been groomed in a while and even after a week of warm weather and rain, there was plenty of snow from 2,000 feet up. Sugarbush is very similar to Stowe but more low-key and less crowds. If you are going up on a weekend or holiday, I recommend Sugarbush. From the summit of Mt. Ellen you can see Whiteface. Also, their variety of terrain is a huge plus. We stuck to blues on Lincoln peak and it took from first chair to 12 to ski all of them. After that we took the shuttle which was about a 10-15 minute ride because the slide brook express was closed but it wasnt too bad. Mt. Ellen is much smaller but is definitely better on more crowded days. Longest I had to wait in the liftline was about a minute if I couldn't just go strait through and hop on. Great place and I would definitely go back.
