Utah’s winters are no secret to skiers, and this season is starting with a bang. Many resorts have about 10” more snow than they did this time last year. In fact, these are some of the best early-season snow totals Utah has seen in about five years. Starting to feel like a good time to plan your trip, isn’t it?

You’ve got 15 ski resorts and 4 ski towns to consider. Each has its upside, but they all share The Greatest Snow on Earth®. So which of Utah’s ski towns (that’s right, there’s more than one) is best for your trip?

Salt Lake City – Utah’s Ski Capital

Salt Lake City is a booming ski town near the famed Wasatch Mountain Range. If you’re flying in, you’ll arrive at the all-new Salt Lake City International Airport, which was practically built for traveling skiers. You’ll have 11 resorts less than an hour away, 6 of which are on the Ikon Pass.

Salt Lake City is a perfect place for first-time visitors, powder chasers, and families. As the largest city in the state, it has plenty to do on and off the mountain. Sure, the resorts aren’t within walking distance, but where else can you catch the last chair and a sports game, symphony performance, or family evening at the museum?

Park City – Utah’s Definitive Ski Town

When you think of ski towns, Park City probably crosses your mind. This is Utah’s traditional ski town, where two world-class resorts (Deer Valley and Park City Mountain) neighbor the always-buzzing historic Main Street. Utah’s newest resort, Woodward Park City, is less than half an hour away.

While everyone can enjoy a Park City ski trip, the luxury here is hard to beat. Think perfectly groomed runs, 5-star dining, and ski-in/ski-out accommodations. All of this in one of the most scenic mountain valleys you’ve seen.

Ogden – Utah’s Gritty Ski Town

Only half an hour north of Salt Lake City lies the historic, adventurous city of Ogden. What was once one of Utah’s most notorious destinations has exploded into a basecamp for thrill-seekers. Powder Mountain, Snowbasin, and Nordic Valley are the closest resorts, standing over the Ogden Valley just east of the city.

The adventurous will feel right at home here. Imagine days of all-time runs, burgers and beers, and a strong sense of ski culture. Plus, Ogden is not often described as crowded or busy. A big bonus for some.

Even More Skiing in Utah

Salt Lake City, Ogden, and Park City promise unforgettable ski trips. But it doesn’t end there. There’s the renowned Sundance Resort, a perfect place to learn with incredibly scenic backdrops. There are also the small town resorts of Beaver Mountain and Cherry Peak near Logan. And, of course, there’s the best-of-both-worlds skiing among the red rocks at Eagle Point and Brian Head in Southern Utah. It’s all within reach, so what are you waiting for?
