Best snow of all the Tahoe area resorts
Expensive food. Can be difficult to get there.

Full review

I have been skiing Tahoe regularly for the past 30 years and have gotten around to most of the resorts in the area. Kirkwood gets the best snow of all the Tahoe area resorts and also has some of the best lines. I'm mostly a weekday skier and rarely wait in a lift line for more than one minute at Kirkwood. Bring your own food though, or stuff your face before you get there because the food is expensive and not worth it. Apres ski is nonexistent as well, so if you stay nearby either seek out the lift ops and party with them, or go to bed at 8pm. Your choice. If you come from the west on Hwy 88 also be prepared for road closures at the Carson Spur. It happens frequently during big snow years (when you want to ski the most). So, on the best snow days of all you might not be able to get there if Hwy 88 is your only shot. I give Kirkwood 3.5 stars, but rounded up because it has the best snow in the Tahoe area.
