Grand Targhee’s terrain spans 2,602 acres across Fred’s Mountain, Peaked Mountain, and hike-to zones like Mary’s Nipple. The resort features 73 trails served by 6 lifts, including high-speed quads and surface lifts. With a vertical drop of 2,270 ft and a summit elevation of 9,920 ft, the mountain offers sustained descents and varied terrain. Snowmaking covers 120 acres, and the resort averages 377 inches of snowfall annually, ensuring consistent conditions throughout the season.
Beginners will find gentle terrain near the Shoshone Lift, with wide runs like Greenhorn and Little Bit offering smooth descents and easy access to ski school facilities. These areas are ideal for first-timers and families, with slow zones and clear signage to support learning. The base area also includes a tubing lane and a beginner-friendly terrain park.
Intermediate skiers can explore the Dreamcatcher and Sacajawea zones, where runs like Chief Joseph and Crazy Horse offer rolling terrain and scenic views. These areas are groomed regularly and provide a mix of blue and light black runs, perfect for building confidence and enjoying longer descents.
Advanced terrain is concentrated around Blackfoot Lift and the upper sections of Peaked Mountain. Runs like Lost Groomer and Powder Reserve deliver steeper pitches and natural features, while the hike-to terrain on Mary’s Nipple offers untouched snow and dramatic alpine exposure. These areas are best tackled with proper gear and awareness of conditions.
Freestyle riders can head to the resort’s two terrain parks, located near the base and mid-mountain. The parks feature jumps, rails, and boxes designed for progression, with regular reshaping and maintenance. The layout supports both beginner and advanced riders, and the parks are accessible via multiple lifts.
Natural features such as open bowls, tree-lined glades, and ridgelines add variety to the skiing experience. The longest run, Teton Vista Traverse, stretches 2.7 miles and offers panoramic views of the Tetons. The resort’s layout allows for smooth transitions between zones, making it easy to explore the full mountain in a single day.
