My children and I enjoyed a three day mid-week visit between Christmas and New Years. The ski area had a relatively modern feel with a nice compact base / apres ski area. Lifts in operation included a three person, a four person high speed, and a six person high speed. I believe there were two or three lifts not yet open due to lack of snow. Being relatively early in the season, only 50% of the runs or so were open. Being a holiday week the lift lines were not bad and it seem at any one time half the skiers were inside. The biggest problem we saw was the actual shape of the hill. The first twenty percent of virtually all runs is a steep blue/black pitch and the remaining distance is relatively flat. The combination of artificial snow, fluctuating temperatures, and concentrated skier traffic made the steeper pitches nearly one hundred percent ice. Skiers and boarders went down sideways, upside down, headfirst, or without venturing a turn. The only non-icy spots were right along the edge of the run. The lift lines had no corral to organize the entry the first two days and when skier volume was high it was reduced to entry by mob. Lifts had only one attendant and often needed two. Bar area was nice and well staffed with friendly bar tenders and servers. Nice fireplaces inside and out. Live entertainment every afternoon. Overall I would say not a great place to visit based on it's physical limitations, but the non-skiing experience was nice. Other Wisconsin ski areas offer better sking and depending on location a trip out west is often worth the extra time.
