A ski resort's overall star rating displayed here is not calculated based on a simple average but takes several factors, including the age of a review, into account.
Travelled from southern Ontario to stay with family in the Soo and ski at Searchmont. It was March break, and one would assume that the whole hill was open! Not the case. The farthest chair lift was closed, limiting acess to one of the best glade runs in Ontario! We were disappointed for sure. ... Full Review

Wouldn't recommend staying the night at their accommodations. Staff is also unfriendly and customer service is crap. ... Full Review

Searchmont is great, and just got a cash infusion to needed areas by a NEW OWNER! Yeah! If you haven't been here or haven't in a while you are missing out on a gem tucked away in the beautiful Algoma Highlands. Spectacular views and great tree skiing. ... Full Review

I have skied all of the major Ontario resorts and Searchmont is by far my favourite. The terrain offers great beginner and intermediate slopes, but the reasons I love Searchmont are 1) the great snow - cold smoke powder at least a dozen times last season 2) the ungroomed and gladed runs complete with some huckable cliffs and a few sections that turn into pillow runs after a good dumping - some days last winter reminded me of heli-skiing at Revelstoke.
If you are within a days drive and snow is in the forecast, do not hesitate to check this place out. You will not be disappointed. ... Full Review

I've been to several of the best resorts in the Canadian Rockies, but Searchmont is still one of the best resorts I've ever been to. This mountain has incredible terrain with a wide range of slopes, plenty of expert runs, and lengthy trail runs. The staff is welcoming, friendly, and highly knowledgeable. ... Full Review

That's about it, again the hill is the best your going to find around the Sault Ste Marie Ontario area because that's the only Hill around. It's respectably large by eastern standards, gets a good dump of natural snow, can challenge any level skier and the resort does feel comfortable which is a great plus. ... Full Review
Totally disorganized staff, management and ski patrol.
Our group saw on the Searchmont website that we could ski at a reduced rate that day. When we got to the hill, full price was charged. We were told to talk to Dan who could not be found! We have since sent an email, suggesting an adjustment for next time..... no reply!
Also, when we were seen skiing in the powder we were told by a patroler named Wayne that it was a closed run....... but there were no markers or any other indications. However there was one sign that read " Ungroomed area, SKI AT YOUR OWN RISK " Wayne said he didn' t know about it......... go figure!! He threatened to take our already overpriced lift ticket.
Will we be skiing Searchmont again.... unlikely!! ( unless, maybe someone makes this right ) ...also unlikely !! Looks like it' s going to be another MATTAWA or ONAPING !! Closed due to poor / lack of proper management ! ... Full Review
I notice the other reviews are out of date. Of late Searchmont has has experienced equipment failures on a pretty consistent basis. Pass holders find out about these things after they get to the hill. Only 2/3 of the runs are in use at the moment due to ????....it's not always explained.
There seems to be too much consideration given to the various competitive teams. Their race courses at times cut across runs they aren't even using. This is a great hill...that is hurting because the people in charge seem to have priorities that are NOT in tune with the average skier.
After more than 10 yrs. as a regular pass holder I find myself skiing there less regularly and going into Michigan or Quebec.... Full Review

Simply put Searchmont Resort offers the best hill that you can find anywhere in Ontario. Those in Southern Ontario stuck at Blue Mountain or Mount St. Louis don't know what they are missing out on. Searchmont is located about 30 minutes north of Sault Ste. Marie. The resort has many chalets on site to provide accomodation. The pricing on the food(the poutine is a must) and drink at the resort is pretty much average I find. A pitcher last time out was $13, so you won't get gouged.
With 18 runs of varying difficulty, Searchmont provides runs for riders of any skill skill level. I would say that the hill might undervalue its difficulty as its blue runs at other resorts might be marked as black which is great. The hill has 3 lifts and 1 poma lift and lineups are virtually non-existant. The lift ticket prices are fair as are rental prices. The night skiiing here is a blast. The have a deal running on Friday nights currently where you can rent your gear, get a lift ticket, and a lesson for only $10... where else can you find that? The terrain park has a variety of rails, boxes, and tabletops for anyone interested in the park aspect. The hill itself is over 700 vertical feet so its bigger than anything you will find in the South.
I went to school in Southern Ontario and attended many of the resorts down there, but Searchmont is far and away the best hill that I've snowboarded in Ontario.... Full Review
I think my best days of riding I've ever had have been out at Searchmont. The drive out to the resort is amazing, and the entire area around the resort is so scenic. When you pull into the parking lot, you know you are in a small ski village, and right away it is a great atmosphere. The lodge is wonderful with a huge fireplace area and comfortable booths and just overall a nice setup. There is also a nice bar and great food.
On to the riding, well if you get the opportunity to go up during a weekday, you will practically have the entire mountain to yourself. And the weekends still have the shortest lift lines I have ever seen. The locals are very knowledgeable and friendly. The snow conditions are great at Searchmont, with heavy snowfalls caused by the lake effect snow from Lake Superior. The terrain is great, ranging from back country tree runs where you can spend all day taking different runs, to perfectly groomed open trails. I enjoy Searchmont as much as anywhere, and it is very reasonably priced.... Full Review
