About Bend
Bend is the gateway to Oregon’s high desert and some of Oregon’s top ski resorts, including Mt. Bachelor, Hoodoo Ski Area, and Willamette Pass. Mt. Bachelor is one of the largest ski resorts in North America, featuring 4,300 acres of skiable terrain, and boasts one of the longest ski seasons in North America. Mt. Bachelor is just 30 minutes from Bend and less than an hour from Redmond Municipal Airport. Hoodoo Ski Area and Willamette Pass Ski Area are two smaller ski resorts, which are popular with locals, and located about an hour away from Bend.

Skiing is just the beginning of the outdoor adventures in the Bend area. We named Bend, home to hundreds of miles of trails, one of the best mountain biking destinations in North America. It’s quite simply a playground for hikers and mountain bikers. Other outdoor adventures abound along the Deschutes River, Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway, and more.
Once the sun has set, the action turns to downtown Bend, which is dotted with dozens of great restaurants, breweries, cocktail lounges, wine bars, and more. Bend is also a great town to do any shopping, since there’s no general sales tax in Oregon.

Need to Know Information
It’s no secret that a ski trip often takes more planning and preparation. That’s particularly the case when flying into a destination like Bend, which has a smaller airport and is prone to winter weather. We recommend booking your flights as far in advance as possible. As you’re planning and packing for your trip, consider how you’ll be traveling with your ski gear. Many airlines, including Alaska, United, American and Delta (all of which fly out of RDM), count a ski bag and boot bag as 1 checked item so long as they weigh under 50 lbs. combined. For one less thing to think about, consider shipping your skis or snowboard or renting/demoing from one of the many esteemed shops in the area.
Finally, no matter where you’re flying, we recommend giving yourself some extra time. Winter weather, traffic, and the time to check ski gear and get through security can all be unpredictable.
