Mt. Bachelor isn’t your average mountain. Located on the eastern flanks of Oregon’s Central Cascades, Mt. Bachelor is a dormant stratovolcano with 360 degrees of skiing off the summit. Mt. Bachelor had one of the best starts to their season in decades, with an early opening in November and consistent snowfall ever since delivering incredible conditions across the mountain. Mt. Bachelor is located less than 30 minute from Bend. Its location in the Cascade Range brings a light, dry snow that covers the slopes for half the year. This makes Mt. Bachelor one of the best spring skiing destinations in North America.

About Mt. Bachelor

Mt. Bachelor’s 4,300 acres of lift-served terrain makes it the seventh-largest ski resort in North America with one of the longest seasons in the country. The 360 degrees of skiing combined with the breadth of terrain, including hike-to terrain on the adjoining cinder cone, and their proximity to the lively town of Bend, Oregon provides one of the most unique skiing and riding experiences you can have. The cherry on top is the 410″ of snow it receives annually on average.

Purchase your tickets online to save up to 40%. Weekday travelers or those who make a long weekend of it can take advantage of $99 lift tickets every Thursday. Additionally, Mt. Bachelor is an Ikon Pass resort, with Ikon Base pass holders getting to enjoy 5 days on the mountain, while those on the full Ikon Pass get 7 days.

Mt. Bachelor is located 30 minutes from Bend, which is considered one of the best mountain towns in America. Skiers and riders from most major ski markets can fly directly into Redmond Municipal Airport (RDM), located just 40 miles away from Mt. Bachelor. The airport has 30 daily flights by several of the major U.S. airlines.

Skiing And Riding At Mt. Bachelor

Every type of skier and rider will find a lot to enjoy at one of North America’s largest ski resorts. The Cloudchaser lift is a good start for intermediates, who can access rolling groomers and veer off for fun tree skiing and riding. Northwest, with its 2,365’ of vertical, is popular with more advanced skiers and riders who are looking for off-piste powder stashes, glades, and some of the resort’s longest runs.

Freestylers love Mt. Bachelor for Woodward Mountain Park, featuring a network of terrain zones across the mountain. It has everything from learning-based terrain zones to progression-focused parks to the Performance Venue near West Village. Last but not least, Mt. Bachelor has a sprawling network of 56 km of groomed trails for classic and skate skiing. There’s also 10 km of packed snowshoe trails. Guests can rent equipment and take lessons at the Mt. Bachelor Nordic Center.

Skiers and riders can take a midday break to refuel at Pine Marten Lodge’s 7,800-foot perch while enjoy sweeping views of Mt. Bachelor and the surrounding Cascades. It has several food and drink options. The Clearing Rock Bar, at West Village Lodge, and the Sun Bar, overlooking the Woodward Learning Zone at Sunrise Lodge, are a couple of the mountain’s best spots for aprés-ski.

Spring Ski Season Is The Best Season

Mt. Bachelor’s ski season culminates in the spring. When many ski resorts are winding down their operations in the spring, it’s the heart of Mt. Bachelor’s ski season, which typically extends through May. March often sees more than 10 days of snowfall, while April, too, brings a lot of powder days. What’s more, after clocks spring forward in early March, sunset is after 7 p.m. So you could ski or ride all day and then get a round of golf in or hit one of Bend’s incredible mountain biking trails before sunset.

With the great spring skiing season comes great events. Subaru WinterFest, happening April 11 through 13, is one of the season’s best events, featuring free concerts, giveaways, food and drink specials, and dog-friendly activities. RendezVan, happening the weekend after, is a celebration of spring skiing and RV/van life with free music, spring pass deals, food and drink vendors, and fun competitions over four days.

Off The Slopes In Bend

As the lifts stop spinning at Mt. Bachelor, the fun spills down into the charming town of Bend. Bend is where many travelers stay, since it’s conveniently located less than a half-hour from both Mt. Bachelor and Redmond Municipal Airport. Many of Bend’s hotels and vacation rentals are a short walk or ride to the town’s incredible selection of restaurants, bars, and more than 30 breweries, including Deschutes Brewery, one of Oregon’s most famous breweries, and Bend Brewing Company, overlooking Mirror Pond.
