Pebble Creek is a challenging hill. 2,200 vertical feet is not a joke. High Intermediates thru experts will find the terrain just to their liking. Steep groomers like Stacy's , Max-out and Ridge will let you really rip some vertical. Tree skiing at Pebble is great too. The last couple of years the Forest Service has gladed several areas on the hill for fire control it has made wonderful tree skiing. Check the trees between Toad's (Sunshine Chair liftline) and Liftline. The trees between Liftline and Stacy's will take you to Rattlesnake a steep tree run with rock jumps. Last year the snow was epic and the best tree skiing was in South Bowl. South Bowl is very steep at the top and then eases up as you go toward the bottom. Very fun in powder. Steep ungroomed can also be found off of the Skyline Chair. Runs like Upper Green, Upper Stacy's and the Rock are all very challenging. Experts are not the only ones who will like Pebble. The bottom lift, Aspen, is wide open and fairly long beginner and novice terrain. It has some different pitches and rolls to keep things interesting. Raw beginners will have to learn to ride a chairlift quickly, you ski down from the lodge and have to ride the chair up. A magic carpet in the beginner area would be a great idea. Pebble's main fault is the lack of lower intermediate runs. After you can handle the Aspen runs your choices are limited until you can handle the upper hill. Lower Green Canyon off of the Sunshine chair is the easiest on the upper hill. I learned to ski at Pebble Creek and found that the challenge of the hill is really an advantage when you ski other places. I have skiied all over the West and have only felt over my head at Jackson Hole, and maybe Snowbird. Pebble does a very good job at grooming the main runs nightly. One of Pebble's nicknames is the "Rock". They do have places on the hill which can get rocky with limited snow cover. Pebble doesn't get as much snow as some in the area. The Lodge has been remodeled and it really lightened things up. Food is basic ski area food good and filling. There is a bar down-stairs for after. What I like best about Pebble is the friendly people. The Manager, Mary is just a gem. All the lifties and patrol people are great. During the week Pebble never has lines on the weekend the only line will be on the Aspen chair. Their learn to ski program is great. Both my kids really improved. When you are in the area don't forget to give Pebble a try. Your legs will be burning and you will have a big smile on your face.
