I fell in love with Monarch the first time I skied here. It is more like Wolf Creek than pretty much any other area, as it is also at very high altitude, on the Continental Divide, gets a lot of powder, and has great tree skiing. Of course, they do not have the sheer acres upon acres of amazing trees like Wolf, but then who does? The views of nearby high peaks, and valleys on both sides are spectacular, better than Wolf. Take the Panorama lift up to Skywalker or Great Divide and you too will be a believer. They are also uncrowded, affordable, and friendly like Wolf too. A wide variety of terrain, including a large quantity of big, wide, greens and blues that you can cruise around on while checking out all the great scenery. Plus some nice hike-to trees and steep double-blacks over in Mirkwood.
