best powder + best maintained in area, easy to avoid platter lifts, outdoor bars

All the good local skiiers seem to choose La Parva. My favorites in the area in order are 1. La Parva 2. Portillo 3. Valle Nevado - and La Parva is #1 because it simply has the best powder of the 3. 0ther great things about La Parva: -best terrain maintenance in area (but still quite different form north american standards) -easy to avoid butt pulley lifts which are all too common elsewhere -chillest scene, with very laid back and very seasoned Chilean skiiers making up the majority - elsewhere there are lots of newbs but for whatever reason not as much here -awesome outdoor bar at summit of best peak for a fortifying afternoon snack of pisco sour(s) and choripan (grilled sausageon a roll) -cheapest of the major area resorts -least crowded while we were there in mid August at least things to keep in mind: -in this part of Chile - try to ski straight through 10-2. any earlier is crusty, and at 2 it becomes slush o'clock -trails are barely marked - usually only a single metal stick with the color of the terrain difficulty -lodge is fine but a bit dated and very vertical, several levels to climb before you get to base lift -skiing above the treeline means goggles with good contrast are hugely important
