Campgaw, a New Jersey-based ski company has won the bid for a five-year permit to operate the ski area at Blue Hills Reservation outside Boston.
"We're very excited," said Campgaw GM Cory Stone. "Blue Hills is very similar to the operation we have in New Jersey, where we lease from Bergen County. We have a really successful learn-to-ski-and-snowboard business, and are really excited to come up to Boston and make the same thing happen."
Stone said Ski Campgaw Management LLC is already talking with the former operators, who are interested in selling equipment, and with Blue Hills employees from past seasons, many of whom will come back this winter.
"We have talked with all our vendors here, so that we could have everything ready to go in case we were awarded the bid," she said.
Campgaw Mountain in Mahwah, N.J., has 25,000 skier visits a year, and operates two double chairlifts and two magic carpets.
The company plans to install a magic carpet at Blue Hills, and work closely with the state to make skiing widely available to urban kids, Stone said.
