Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany's top winter resort, will be hosting a wealth of thrilling spectator sports this season, including one of the most famous ski jumping events in the world.

Some 30,000 visitors will congregate in Garmisch to watch the traditional New Year's Day Ski Jump, Jan. 1, 2010. The event, which has been taking place here for 60 years, is broadcast worldwide and is actually the second jump of the Four Hills Tournament and is one of the highlights of the ski jumping season. The Bavarian Hornschlitten is a traditional wooden sledging competition which takes place Jan. 6. The 1.2-kilometre ‘High Path' leads from the Alpine hut Partnachalm down to the Hornschlitten Club Partenkirchen. Contestants speed down the slopes at more than 100 kilometres per hour - accidents are all part of the game.

The FIS Alpine Ski World Cup will take place in Garmisch-Partenkirchen March 10-14, 2010. The world's leading skiers will compete in various disciplines, including the downhill race, super-G, giant slalom, and slalom. Tickets for the event are available online or call +49-8821-752-800. The resort has been nominated to host the FIS Alpine World Ski Championship 2011.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen offers 60 kilometres of well prepared ski slopes linked by modern lift facilities and dotted with traditional mountain huts.
