Leysin's Le Kuklos Revolving Restaurant Now Solar Powered

Leysin's panoramic revolving restaurant 'Le Kuklos', on the summit of La Berneuse, now runs on solar energy.

Ten solar panels have been installed, allowing the restaurant (at 2048 metres) to revolve 360 degrees within 1.5 hours thanks to the energy of the sun. The next stage will consist of installing a vertical axis windmill so wind power can also be exploited.

When the project is finished it will make the restaurant entirely independent of traditional means of energy, aspiring to be the first entirely green restaurant in the region. The Leysin Energie Association has been working on the concept of renewable energies for several years.

The panoramic revolving restaurant has 250 seats and as it turns it offers breathtaking views of Lake Geneva, the Rhone Valley, and Mont Blanc.

Leysin (1263-2331 metres) is set above the Rhone Valley and is famous for its sunshine. It offers access to 60 kilometres of downhill pistes (12 blue runs, five red, and two black) and seven kilometres of cross-country trails.

Leysin is part of the Glacier-Alpes Vaudoises ski area, so in addition to skiing in Leysin itself, the appropriate ski pass will allow entry to the neighbouring resorts of Ansere, Chateau d'Oex, Gstaad, Les Diablerets, and Villars-Gryon.
