The drive from White Salmon base area (weekday operations) to Heather Meadows base area (up to the top) is hellish. There are sheer drop offs and no concrete ballards or barriers, as many other mountain drives have. The WSDOT says it is basically a lack of money, as they would have to lease more land from the National Forest, in order to widen the road to accommodate barriers so no one goes over the edge, but safety and human lives SHOULD come first, this only stands to reason. As well, for the area that boasts the most snow anywhere... that is anywhere, I think it is daft that Heather Meadows is not open during the week (not very family friendly for easy ski runs). Not everyone wants to ski difficult runs, and those of us that like the easier skiing at Heather Meadows are relegated to weekends only. Why? Other big snow areas are a bit broader minded, and this is very disappointing to us. So stop bragging about the amount of snow and... SHOW ME THE MONEY!
