Elk always has good snow conditions and generally one of the best in the Pocono's ski region. It has the best terrain of all the Pocono region and is only out done in character by Mountain Creek of NJ. I would highly recommend it for all levels of skiing as it has something for everyone. Always great grooming on groomed trails, they have ungroomed trails and for more challenge generally have at least two mogul runs. The only draw back if you compare it to the big boys of the east coast skiing there are no really steep runs, runs are shorter and no high speed detachable lifts.
Elk is geared to the skier and thus not as many snow boarders go there. It is out in the middle of no where, lodging and restaurants are few.
I was there Tuesday, January 20, 2009 and had a fantastic time. I took my best friend from Oregon that generally ski mountains not hills and he had a good time. He loved the groomed runs as grooming on the mountains he skis are never this good. I took him to Elk because it is the best that the Pocono region has to offer and he had been telling me for the past 10 years he wanted to ski something in the Pocono's so this year we did.
Check them out and you won't be disappointed.
