Overcrowded, Poor Lift Management, Lack of advanced runs
I visited Blue Mountain this past Saturday. For a PA mountain, it had a decent variety of runs and many terrain park options. However, it was severely overcrowded and the lift lines, especially at the base lodge, were a nightmare. Now that Blue Mountain has implemented the automated lift ticket system with turnstiles at each lift, they seem to think it is unnecessary to control the lift loading process. The singles line (if there is one) snakes around forever since it is loaded one by one with the neighboring triples line. This results in the singles line taking forever as there are many more singles waiting than triples. Why not stick with the traditional setup with groups of 4 or less and a separate singles line? Also, the employees at the lifts make no attempt to ensure that groups proceed to the turnstiles in an orderly fashion. Instead each groups taking turns in order, it is basically every man for himself and everyone is constantly herding towards the turnstiles. I'm sure if it was less crowded, it would be a blast but when you'd rather walk up to the other lift mid-mountain than wait 30 min to get on a 'high speed' quad, you start to question why you paid for a lift ticket at all.
