Excellent terrain & diversity, atmosphere, staff , snow, lines, no crowd, closeness.
None, considering its competitive set.
**Great Weekend/Day Trip** Firstly, Catamount is a short drive form Westchester and the NYC area; it's easy to get there early without waking up at a ridiculous time. That being said, Catamount is amazing and exceeds expectations for being such a close, relatively small mountain. With 1000ft of vertical, the mountain has plenty to offer, its black diamonds are fun and fast (if not difficult), and its double black is steep, wide, and challenging; you can have fun blasting down these trails all day. Catamounts' intermediates are nice cruisers with great views. Some trails were nicely bumped-up. Lines were crazily short when I went (back-to-back runs all day)! Snow was plentiful, good-quality, and there were stashes of "powder" to take some fresh tracks over. The chairlifts weren't high speed, but definitely adequate for the mountain. The lift guys were cool and easy to exchange a few words with. This leads me to the great Berkshires, down-home atmosphere that permeated the whole experience! The base lodge was fine for its purpose, obviously not luxurious, but fine. Prices are good.
