Celebrate art on the Fourth “My America” by Sungho Choi at Foosaner Art Museum in Melbourne. ( Handout / July 1 , 2014 )

Terry Hummel VISUAL ARTS 3:34 p.m. EDT , July 1, 2014

tiffany Every day is an "art day," even the Fourth of July. There are several art happenings on Friday and through the holiday weekend.

tiffany The Morse Museum (445 N. Park Ave., Winter Park) and the Winter Park Historical Museum (200 W. New England Ave.) are both offering free admission on July 4. The Morse is home to a huge collection of works by American artist Louis Comfort Tiffany. Ask to see the silver work by Paul Revere (yes, the Paul Revere). The Historical Museum, in the north end of the Farmers' Market building, is currently showing "The Trains of Winter Park" exhibition.

tiffany If you're heading to the coast, as I am, then visit the Eau Gallie Arts District in Melbourne on Friday for the art walk along Highland Avenue, 5:30-8:30 p.m. There will be vendors and music in the street, and various galleries will be open. The Fifth Avenue Art Gallery (1470 Highland Ave., 321-259-8261) has a special showing of black-and-white photographs by award-winning Florida artist Richard Auger. The Foosaner Art Museum (1463 Highland Ave., 321-674-8916) is showing the nationally touring exhibit "Infinite Mirror: Images of American Identity" by 39 artists representing the diversity of America. A perfect collection to see on the Fourth of July.

tiffany If you're in New Smyrna Beach, stop by Arts on Douglas (123 Douglas St., 386-428-1133) and Harris House, across the street, for their First Saturday openings and view the newest work of their almost 60 Florida artists. The artists' reception is 4-7 p.m.

tiffany It's also a good time to catch up on some of the museums and galleries you may have missed recently. The Mennello Museum of American Art (900 E. Princeton St., Orlando, 407-246-4278) and the Albin Polasek Museum (633 Osceola Ave., Winter Park, 407-647-6294) have beautifully landscaped sculpture gardens, both are lakefront and have great lawns for picnicking. Be sure to call ahead, as hours may change from the norm over the holiday.
