We really enjoyed Angel Fire (January 21-22, 2007). The snow was great and the staff was friendly and helpful.

The runs on the front side of the mountain are very long as is the ride up the Chile Express lift. Some may like really long runs, but beginners and intermediate skiers may find it tiring. The easy runs are accessible only from one long, narrow trail (Headin’ Home). This can be boring and the trail is crowded because all of the other front side runs begin here.

Our family found the backside of the mountain more enjoyable - medium length runs with a quicker lift ride (Southwest Flyer).

The ski lodge (Village Haus restaurant) leaves much to be desired. It has a generally dirty appearance, is crowded, loud, and has no view of the slopes feeding into the base area. There was no way for part of your group to watch for others coming down the slopes. In addition, bringing outside food/drink into the Village Haus was strictly prohibited. There were a few picnic tables outside for lunches – the temperature was 15 and snowing. In addition, the picnic tables had a view of the restrooms, not the slopes. If you are a family that pays for everything and does not try to do a budget minded lunch, then you will be ok at Angel Fire. Brown bag lunches are frowned upon.

We tried to lock our skies at the end of the first day of skiing – there were plenty of coin operated ski lockers (75 cents). We needed five and could only find two that worked. More than forty (40) ski lockers were broken. We could not get help or assistance with the ski locks. After observing other skiers give up after loosing several quarters, we also gave up and carried our skies back to our rooms – very inconvenient.

Expect to walk quite a bit. The ski lifts are several flights of stairs above where you enter the resort area. Anytime you take a break, be prepared to walk several flights of stairs down and then back up.

Here is our honest opinion with a few gripes. Overall, we liked it and would go back.
