Welch has great terrain, too bad they don't know how to manage it. The snow is typically iced up and grooming is horrible. Everytime I have been there they leave grooming ruts and "death cookies" all over. Avoid early season as they don't make quality snow, rather they just pile up gigantic mounds of ice and then try to spread it out. Apparently, they also have banned people for carving aggresively, yet they placed all kinds of terrain park obstacles on one of the best runs (right up front). Apparently making proper turns is more dangerous than hurling yourself towards gigantic metal railings. Try Spirit, or Granite Peak for a day trip, it will be worth the extra drive.
