Cheap, Relatively close to Southeast, mi, Day lodge is great
Really small Bar, no close nightlife, shabby feel, boring short runs
I was really excited to spend new years at a Ski Resort rather than getting drunk at some boring party.
I did have a lot of fun here at Caberfae, but as a resort/ski location, they need to put some of their profits back into the resort.
I am a snowboarder and you have to know the trails or hike to get to the lifts other than the crowded ones near the day lodge.
The hotel that you stay in has a really shabby cheap feel to it and seems like they don't maintain or update it very much at all. You feel that you are staying a a cheap trashy hotel in the rooms.
The restaurant at the Mackenzie lodge feels like a family diner and the food there is okay but inexpensive.
The day lodge is very nice and has a great look and feel to it. Typical ski lodge menu which is cheap and what you would expect.
The R Dubs bar is a joke however. Arlo is a very nice bartender, but Caberfae really really needs to expand this bar and make it more cozy. The bar is about the size of one of the hotel rooms. This place needs to dim the lights, change the tables/chairs and make this place 10 times the size it is. It would help if they stayed open a little later too as the closes nightlife seems to be about 30 minutes away.
The runs seem really short unless you take the runs in a way where you connect them. If you do this you can get some pretty long runs out of them, but during the holiday it was pretty crowded and you had to dodge people while attempting to connect the runs.
The first night was really icy, but the days after seemed pretty as light snow was each night.
My girlfriend and I also seemed to have a lot of rude/impolite lift attendants in the evening hours. I do not know if it was just because they got annoyed with the teen/college kids more at night, but the older guys running the lifts during the day time were super friendly and nice.
Bottom line is this place could be great if they put some money back into this place, but this was my first time going so I have no idea how long it has been in it's current condition.
Unfortunately, I will most likely not be back and will spend a the extra money and drive for Boyne or Nubs.
This place seems best suited for Families on a budget and who don't have a need to relax with a few beers afterwards.
