Lots to do, glades, views, length of runs
Après ski, distance, price of condo
We were a group of three guys in our early 20s (23/24) and checked out Sunday River from Ottawa, Canada for a long weekend in January.
We are all relatively good skiers/boarders and thoroughly enjoyed the resort! Although there may not be the most vertical here, the creative design of the runs adds length and diversity to any trip from top to bottom as you can take numerous different routes.
Despite its enormous length from side to side, the designers have laid out the hill so you can ski all the way from the Jordan Bowl to the Brookside condos underneath White Heat without going up one lift... This kind of run will take about 10-15 minutes depending on your bombing capabilities.
The glades here, specifically Last Tango and Blind Ambition were awesome! If you go to the very end of Last Tango you will experience some real off piste skiing that will be challenging even for the most advanced glade skiers as its extremely narrow and steep with MANY trees!!
The lift system is relatively good with several high speed quads and the "chondola" (which in my opinion is slightly useless and gimmicky).
On the weekend take the triple lift up to the top of Aurora Peak and head to the run on the left side (you have to hike up a bit...). You will get amazing views over the backside of the mountain that are quite different from the front!
The three of us stayed at Brookside condo overlooking the hill. The room was very small for the price but was still fine for us. There is also a massive outdoor pool and jacuzzi that we hit up every night!
Overall we had a great trip and really enjoyed the place! It was a bit far from Ottawa (6hours) but the road trip was definitely worth it!
