night skiing, great views, great deals
slow lifts, lodge isn't great, food stinks
I live in Portland, ME, therefore, Shawnee Peak is the closest mountain to get to. Not a bad little mountain at all, really. Plenty of great deals on lift tickets everyday of the week. Lifts are pretty slow. In fact, their fastest lift is a quad that goes only halfway up the mountain, and primarily services beginner terrain. This place is a blast though, when there is a ton of snow, and it's not crowded. On a weekday, if there is a storm, there is plenty of fun to be had here. None of the terrain is terribly difficult, but it is still pretty fun. The lodge definitely leaves something to be desired, and the food therein isn't too great either. They've got a bar/restaurant upstairs where the food is considerably better. If you want nightlife, your best bet is the 45min/1hr drive into Portland, because there is not a lot happening up there at night, except night skiing.
