MAN is this an awesome hill. 1800 vert and the softest most consistent snow in the state. 400" annually and they mean it. A great mountain for all ability levels. Nothing extremely steep here, but there are some rocks to jump off and a couple short chutes if you want a bigger thrill. The groomers are ballroom wide cruisers and have an amazingly consistent pitch. Pretty affordable, and the staff are laid back and fun. New terrain on the back of the mountain gives you awesome views of Payette Lake. They also really take care of their mountain in the off season to make sure it is really ready to open when it does. This includes mowing the bushes on the mountains groomers, something Bogus should pay attention to.
However, recent ownership shuffles have resulted in the company acquiring much of the land surrounding its base area (currently a parking lot and the lodge) and plans are in the works to build a significant number of condos and vacation homes and an expanded base lodge area. WHY they still wish to proceed with this plan in THIS housing market, AND knowing full well what happened to Tamarack just 30 miles away has me completely boggled. Claims are that this is the only way this mountain can compete against other destination resorts, but I cry foul. The mountain already has a well established reputation and could certainly operate in a financially sound manner without relying on real estate deals to keep it open. Real estate development will undoubtedly ruin the charm of this mountain and turn it from the true skiiers mountain to some sell out vacation home boondogle that I would certainly discontinue visiting.
