light dry powder, fast lifts, tree runs aplenty, great ski town
little icy on lower runs and merge areas
Steamboat was the last stop on our pow pow platter. We were there on a saturday, which meant it got fairly busy by the afternoon, but we still never waited more than 5-10 minutes for a lift, and the airy powder there made it more than worth the wait. Lifts were incredibly fast there and there is a big variety of types of runs to ski there. It seemed like steamboat would be a waste for beginners, but for us, it offered some of the best tree sking we've encountered. Challenging is the shadows run off of the sundown express, but if you find that too difficult, there is a hundred different ways to get down off the sunrise express... Through trees, moguls, or groomers, whatever you feel like. The only drawback is the sunrise lift loading area.. Too congested and almost uphill to get too, so keep your speed...
definitely worth the trip from iowa.
