Audie Mullings, 83 of Leadville, Colorado passed away on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at the Columbine Manor Care Center in Salida, Colorado. She was born on January 20, 1930 to Leaton and Lena (Jean) Pate in Cordova, Alabama. She married Ted Mullings on June 14, 1963 in Leadville, Colorado. They were married for 50 years.
Audie graduated from Cordova High School in 1946 and her life on the slopes began on the Continental Ski Course at Climax in 1953. She was a Professional Ski Patrol Director receiving her National Ski Patrol Appointment in 1970. Audie served many years as a volunteer ski patroller and in 1981 began working for Ski Cooper. In 1985 she was promoted to Ski Patrol Director and retired in 2004. She was an active participant in National Ski Patrol training programs, had been a Winter Emergency Care (WEC) instructor since the inception of the program and was a WEC Instructor Trainer. She was also a long-time Advanced First Aid Instructor, a CPR Instructor and a Swimming Instructor. Audie was inducted into the Sports Women of Colorado Hall of Fame for contributing to the sport of skiing in 1993 and in 2006 she was inducted into the Leadville-Lake County Sports Hall of Fame. Besides swimming and skiing, she was an avid cyclist, completing the first seven “Ride the Rockies” events. Audie also loved painting, gardening, cooking and making homemade jam. Most importantly, she was a devout wife and mother.
Audie is survived by her husband Ted Mullings of Leadville; daughter Roxanne Hall and husband Ty of Leadville; son Willy Cunningham and wife Tina of Lander, Wyoming; son Tim Cunningham and wife Paula of Greeley, Colorado; grandchildren Jessie Gloat, Audie Cunningham and Ted Cunningham; sister Nancy Jinright of Mobile, Alabama and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Michael Cunningham, sisters Thelma Key and Delma Madison and brothers Tommie Sanford and Van Pate.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at the Tennessee Pass Nordic Center at Ski Cooper with John Copper officiating. A reception will be held immediately following the service. Inurnment will be private. Bailey-Kent Funeral Home of Leadville is assisting the family with arrangements.
