Monarch is a great ski area. If you haven't skied it yet, DO SO. Its worth it.
Snow is 100% natural and they get a ton of it! While this does mean that coverage can be irregular early season, once the base is in place you can expect consistently great snow across the mountain.
The terrain is quite varied. The skiers right of the mountain features a good mix of steeps, blues, and some nice greens on the far right, served by both a quad and a double.
The summit is served by the Panorama lift, which opens up some nice blacks and steeper blue runs. On powder days, these runs can be epic. On sunny days, the view is epic.
Skiers left is served by the Breezeway lift, which opens up some longer cruisers and some advanced terrain.
The mountain is great, but the atmosphere is excellent as well. It is wonderful being able to walk 50 feet from your car to the lift. Staff is friendly and accomodating, and the lodge has that classic Colorado sking feel with a giant fireplace thats kept roaring on the cold days.
The only real gripe I have with Monarch is that they do not seem to field a competitive season pass. If they brought the price down, I wouldn't ski anywhere else.
