Durango Mountain Resort, known forever to locals only as "Purgatory," is a four-season resort bounded by spired peaks on three sides and high desert to the south. The Animas River bisects the town. This geographic alignment places Durango squarely in the middle of two weather systems with a track record of producing steady light snowfall followed by bluebird days. There is shuttle service from the town of Durango to the resort.
High speed detachable six-passenger lift, a high speed quad and four triple chairs in place to take advantage of 260 inches of average snowfall on 1,200 skiable acres. Two terrain parks. Twenty one percent of the mountain can be covered by snowmaking. Snowcoaster Tubing Hill is a favorite with families.
