SSMR is great mountain close to home for us. Only 3.5-3.45 hours from the central coast with no, Nor Cal, bay area traffic, casinos and rarely a road closure due to snow since they have aggressive snow removal on HWY #168. The Highway #168 is about as easy as it gets (No turns, stop lights etc.) that leads straight to the parking lot. We find it perfect for our family looking to "avoid" resorts with long lift lines, crowds & expense. The crew are all friendly and very accommodating. Lots of parks, jibs, terrain etc. to spread the herd out on busy weekends that happen a couple times a year. With the West Ridge expansion a couple years ago we can ride all day long without ever going back to the base area. Sierra Summit Inn, Shaver Lake Village Hotel, Tamarack Lodge are all close by but book early. Done the Big Resort thing for years and years. If you want to just ride and slide without hassle, this is a great place to do it and not bust the bank. With a base of 7000' in the Sierra National Forest we can expect quality conditions on a regular basis. We rode well into May 2006 given the amount of snow they can get some years and the elevation advantage...
