Full review

It's nice that this resort is so close to the central valley, but you don't have to drive much further to get a lot better terrain features. Personally I don't know why more people don't just go to Sugar Bowl, seeing as it is only about a 5 minute longer drive, and you get so much more. Borreal is, in one word, flat, and in two words, flat and short, and it is much harder to challenge yourself here than most other northern tahoe resorts. However, they do have a good park, if you don't mind fighting for time on the jumps. Either way, the resort does tend to get a lot of snowfall, however its lower elevation relative to areas like Sqaw can become a problem during especially warm pacific fronts. Mid to late season however, there is generally a lot of coverage. Crowds here are intolerable on weekends. There is excellent beginner terrain, however this is made difficult by the sheer ammount of people struggling to make their way around the mountain. Pick a weekday if you are starting out and want some lessons. Also, lift tickets are cheap, and this is generally one of the first resorts to start cranking the bullwheels when the snow flies, so that is a plus as well.
