Etna Nord Overview

Region Wide Comparison

Area Profile

The ski slopes on Europe highest (3343m), and still very active, the volcano stand above the groves of orange, almond and fig trees. Despite the heat above and below, snow cover is usually good at this altitude. The steepnees of the pitch increases as you get higher. It's possible to practice summer sports like golf, rafting and tennis in the afternoon close to the slopes. The ski lifts had to be abandonned in 1999-2000 when increasingly serious eruptions of Etna made the area unsafe.
